Why I have so many twitter accounts

I’ve you’ve been paying attention to me on Twitter you’ll notice that I now have three accounts which I use on a daily basis. I know, it sounds a little crazy, but it’s actually working really well for me. I thought I’d take a few minutes to explain the motivation behind them.

I initially started with @braker1nine (originally @brakerdizzle) way way back in December of 2008. After a while I realized that at or during sporting events, I tended to tweet a ton about them. Some of my friends were annoyed by this and I thought it might help my followers to split those up. Thus I created @thetiggles. The benefit if that proved to be tremendous. Not only could I send all of my sports tweets there, but I could follow all the sports tweeters. Now whenever I’m watching sports on TV or I’m at a game, I can just check that account and keep track of what’s going on.

Another complaint I often heard was from my friends who didn’t understand/care about all the nerdy tech stuff I was tweeting about. So I recently decided to create @chrisbrakebill which is a protected account for all of my friends. Just no-tech, mundane way for them to keep up with my daily life and for me to keep up and communicate with friends. This has also been awesome because I know just where to check when I want to see what my friends are up to.

I know it seems a little crazy for me to have three Twitter accounts. But they each serve their purpose and I think it’s made Twitter immensely more useful for me.
